DescriptionWhen social emotional learning is an integral part of the school day, all students are better prepared to attend school, focus on learning, and meet academic standards. Spend the day learning and practicing dynamic activities that strengthen perspective-taking, self-regulation, conversational skills, and collaborative problem solving. Engage in hands-on practice and discussions about theory, terminology, evidence-based practice, and current guidelines for SEL programming. Using an array of instructional modifications and customized materials, participants will examine the relationship between the Acting with Purpose™ SEL curriculum and the Including Everyone™ companion program for full integration of students with special needs. You will leave this workshop ENERGIZED by the power of integrated SEL instruction!
PresentersBrian Smith is an actor, director, classroom teacher, and a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association. In partnership with Teresa Dooley-Smith, he has spent the past 10 years leading innovative programs that use Acting as a platform to build character, create positive learning communities, and involve all students in strengthening social skills.

Teresa Dooley-Smith, CCC- SLP, is an ASHA certified SLP, educator, and an out-of-the-box clinical thinker. She is the founder of an innovative speech pathology and social communication practice and has more than 30 years of experience building inspiring communities among learners, teachers, and families, and serving children and adults with special needs.

Teresa and Brian, along with their writing partner, Lynn Yanis, established Positive Learning Communities and have co-authored extensive curricular and instructional materials for teaching SEL, supporting students with special needs, and embodying mindfulness and positivity in all teaching and learning.
